I WOULD NEVER DO THAT!

What is it in us that makes us compare ourselves to others?

Why do we, as humans, compare ourselves to our brothers and sisters who are made in God’s likeness? Does the comparison and self righteous attitude make us feel more secure and confident about ourselves? Why?

According to Merriam Webster dictionary, "a self righteous person is someone who is convinced of one's own righteousness especially in contrast with the actions and beliefs of others.” Moreover, self righteousness hold holier-than-thou attitudes containing a feeling or display of moral superiority derived from a sense that one's beliefs, actions, or affiliations are of greater virtue than those of the average person.

Self righteousness has the ability to kill off genuine connections with our brothers and sisters and instead, makes us judge and exclude them. There are seldom ways I catch myself slipping in this mindset or it'll show up in my actions. As I’ve become aware of doing these things, I find myself confronting the issue and becoming reflective of my heart -- asking God to purify me and renew me. This is such a humbling feeling to know I cannot change it in my own strength, but only the power of the gospel can. It doesn’t feel good to be aware that I struggle in these areas, but it gives me the opportunity to cling onto the hem of the Lord’s garment while on my knees.

Let’s get rid of shamming others for doing things we aren’t doing or wish we could do and have been immobilized. If that person want to dress up to go no where that’s their business and there is nothing wrong with that. And if that person decides to stay in school longer that’s okay and if someone decides to get married old or young that’s okay as well.

3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:3-5

As long as they got their yes from God and worshipping Him in and through all these things, it has nothing to do with us and any negative or comparison comments are unnecessary. I’m not saying we can’t hold one another accountable or give each other wisdom in making decisions, because we do need that. But, it is necessary God agrees with what you say, do, or timing of it. I’m just saying let’s make sure we are minding our own business to better ourselves. Let’s not judge or project judgmental feelings or comments, but love each other where we are all at in life. Let’s commit to sowing good seeds in this world!

Until next time,
