The Silence that Births Truth

Everywhere we go, there is noise all around us. Maybe, if you’re anything like me, you try to control your environment noise level. However, sometimes the noise within us is much greater than the noise around us. Have you ever been to a family house gathering and find yourself trying to quiet others down just to think. Or maybe, have you found yourself in the car, turning the radio down and quieting passengers for you to focus. All these things are examples of noise. However, noise may not always be some sort of sound. Noise can be a distraction from what you need to focus on.

Everyday our subconscious is pushed to buy more to fill us up. If I can buy this new study Bible, then I’ll be set to really know my word. Or if I could download a mindfulness app to practice solitude, I’ll be set. Or maybe yet, if I could just watch more sermons, I’ll be on my way to overcoming this sin in my life. Or, I’ll lay in my bed and watch some tv while I scroll through my phone on my social media. All these things can be good things at times. But at the end of the day, it’s just more noise to keep you from the one who longs to just be with you.

Jesus doesn’t want anything between Him and us. Are you thirsty for real quality time with the Lord? When is the last time you had sought after the Lord to know and be with Him. There is a real cost to our lack of silence with God. We are missing out in deep intimacy and connection with God. There is no substitute in the world that can fulfill the longing on the inside. Jesus wants to fill that void—the place where your needs are unmet and deep desires are longing to be fulfilled. God wants His time with you and wants to give you and I true rest. We don’t have to run to more noise when our inner noise becomes overwhelming. We can choose to sit with our Father and just be and receive His love for us.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 NIV

You are loved, chosen, seen, and valued.

May God’s peace and grace be with you!

Until next time,

Brittany Laguerre
